Dutton and Davis Tennis Club
How to book the court, rackets and balls
Please book and pay before you play. The court is run and maintained voluntarily by the community, your booking fee is essential to keep the equipment, court and garden well maintained and available to all.
You will need to book in person at St Martin's Stores - from the court it's at the top of the hill and turn left. Please make bookings in person rather than calling or messaging. For shop open times click here.
The cost of hiring the court for an hour is - £5/person playing. Payment needs to be in cash so that it is simple for the shop to run the booking system, which they do voluntarily. The charge made also includes use of rackets and practise balls that can be found in the pavilion.
The court is available to be booked 0800 - 2000 Monday to Saturday by visitors to St Martin's. Play on Sunday is reserved for full members.

The rules
Children under 14yrs must be supervised in person by an adult all the time that they are playing on the court.
You must book and pay at the shop before you play.
Don’t adjust the net.
Return all equipment borrowed from the pavilion, including all balls. If you lose balls replacements can be bought in the shop. Please don't enter neighbouring fields to retrieve balls.
Wear suitable shoes to play that will not damage you or the playing surface. Heavily cleated or dimpled soles can cause damage to the court surface as well as your muscles and ligaments as they potentially make you stop too fast.
The court is for playing tennis and bowls only. No football, other games or actives are to take place on the court.
Leave the court and surrounding area tidy. Before you leave, close the up the pavilion and close the gates to the court and garden. Also take any rubbish you have generated away with you and dispose of it responsibly.
No smoking or vaping on the court or anywhere within the grounds or pavilion.

The Dutton and Davis Tennis Club
The garden and all weather court, just off the quay at Highertown, was made possible due to a generous legacy left by Miss Dutton and Miss Davis who lived on St Martin’s until the late 1980’s.
The intention is that the court and garden are available for the enjoyment of islanders and visitors alike. The maintenance and upkeep are the responsibility of the club committee.
The club relies on income from membership fees, booking fees and donations to keep the court and gardens in good condition.
